USL Dunkerque has reached an agreement with FC Nantes to sell its coach Luis Castro. The 45-year-old Portuguese, who arrived in 2023 in the North, is leaving the department after a very successful season that led the maritimes to the gates of Ligue 1 and the semi-finals of the French Cup. Luis Castro has led the maritime club to fourth place in the second division and the semi-finals of the French Cup. Castro's men also shone in the French Cup, consecutively eliminating three Ligue 1 clubs. Before a season of playing leading roles, the Portuguese coach had managed to maintain USLD in Ligue 2, finishing in 16th place. Luis Castro had extended his contract until 2027 with the northern club, but is finally leaving the Dunkerque bench to discover Ligue 1. At Nantes, Castro's debut will be closely watched in a club that has had 17 different coaches since Waldemar Kita took over in 2007. The 2025-2026 Ligue 2 calendar has been released and Dunkerque will travel to Clermont for the start of the new season. USLD has also announced the recruitment of Spanish coach Albert Sánchez to take charge of the Dunkerque squad.
